Breast Reduction
Considering a breast reduction
Breast reduction, called "reduction mammaplasty" is designed to relieve the physical discomfort and restrictions that result from the weight of very large breasts. Heavy breasts can cause back, neck and shoulder pain. They can create skin irritation beneath the breasts, indentations in the shoulders from tight bra straps, restriction of physical activity and debilitating self-consciousness.
The breast reduction procedure removes excess breast tissue and skin, making the breasts smaller and firmer. The areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple) may be reduced and repositioned.
Breast reduction can be performed at any age, but Mr Mutimer usually recommends waiting until breast development has stopped. Childbirth and breast-feeding may have significant and unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. Nevertheless, many women decide to undergo breast reduction before having children and feel that they can address any subsequent changes later. If you plan to breast-feed in the future, you should discuss this with Mr Mutimer.
